Elizabeth Schrader Polczer is back. Last time she we talked she told us about the work she was doing on Mary Magdalene. She had discovered inaccuracies in an ancient text and developed what some now refer to as the “single sister thesis” of John 11 — that Lazarus didn’t have two sisters, Mary and Martha, but only one. And that one sister is Mary Magdalene. We’ll hear more about that today.

Since then, she earned her doctorate at Duke University in New Testament and have joined the faculty of Villanova University and in this conversation, Elizabeth shares important news about the reception of this research at the highest level of global scholarship.

The Bible she refers to is the Novum Testamentum Graece (Nestle-Aland). The “Nestle-Aland,” or “NA,” is the source from which almost all versions of the New Testament are translated into every language around the world. It is THE text behind your Bible.

Today my conversation is with John Pohl MD, DThM is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He is a pediatric gastroenterologist with clinical experience in cystic fibrosis. He has had a long interest in the intersection of science and religion and has received his theological education at Northwind Theological Seminary and he is the author of the book A Theology of the Microbiome, which is the main topic of our conversation today.

I feel like I found a new friend in John and I enjoyed our conversation so much that I forgot to ask my last question “Where do you find pleasure and wellbeing right now?” I’ll ask him next time.

William Paul Young is back! This time to talk about his new book Return to The Shack.

Paul was born in Canada and grew up in a missionary family in New Guinea. He wrote the book The Shack as a Christmas present for his children and had no idea that it would become more than that. The Shack became a great success, selling several million copies and has been translated into several languages. The book has also been available as a movie since 2016.

Detta är sista avsnittet för säsong 10 och jag väljer att lägga ut en repris, nämligen mitt samtal med Olof Lindqvist från förra våren då jag åkte till Alnarp, till hans tempel Lyfjaberg och vi satt i varsin fåtölj och samtalade om allt som ligger oss båda varmt om hjärtat och han berättar lite extra om templet och vad som finns där och de ceremonier han erbjuder.

Han ger oss några tips om hur vi kan fira Midsommar på ett härligt sätt så jag tycker det passar just nu.

Olof är en sådan människa som jag upplever som genuint öppen, ärlig och generös. Som om man alltid känt varandra.

Yet another great conversation. Jennifer Garcia Bashaw is a professor, minister, author, and public scholar. Her main areas of study and writing are New Testament studies, the work of René Girard, and biblical interpretation. She is a Nerd-in-Residence for The Bible for Normal People podcast and enjoy preaching and teaching in various settings, and she has been on the podcast twice before.

Aaron Higashi is a public Bible scholar with a PhD in biblical interpretation from Chicago Theological Seminary. He writes Bible commentaries, including 1 & 2 Samuel for Normal People: A Guide to Prophets, Kings, and Some Pretty Terrible Men, and answers Bible questions on Instagram at @abhigashi.

Together they wrote Serving up Scripture, which is the topic of this conversation. A book about the Bible using the metaphor of cooking which makes it a pretty special book.

Tom Oord is back on the podcast, again. Always a blast!

Tom is a theologian, philosopher, and scholar of multi-disciplinary studies. He is a best-selling and award-winning author, having written or edited more than thirty books. Tom also directs doctoral programs at Northwind Theological Seminary and directs the Center for Open and Relational Theology. He is known for his research and writing on love, open and relational theology, science and religion, evil and power, and the implications of freedom and relationships for transformation.

We talk about his new book A Systematic Theology of Love. It’s a fat book, but here is a link to the two first chapters, if you hesitate to buy the whole thing.
